CITIC Heavy Industries supports the commissioning of the world's highest copper mine

2026-01-30 18:07:00

On Jan 23, Phase 2 of the Julong Copper Mine, operated by Zijin Mining officially began operation. Once at full capacity, it will rank as China's largest copper mine and the world's highest-altitude copper operation, processing the lowest ore grades. CITIC Heavy Industries provided key equipment that helped bring the project to completion.

With a total investment of 17.46 billion yuan ($2.51 billion), this ming project is located at 5,000 meters above sea level in a frigid, oxygen-deprived environment, where both personnel and machine efficiency are severely challenged by complex geological conditions. The demanding location also requires equipment reliability and technical service capability. Throughout the construction process, CITIC Heavy Industries's tailored equipment played a vital role in the project's progress.

To maximize construction efficiency, CITIC Heavy Industries set up a service base in Maizhokunggar county, Xizang autonomous region, at 3,800 meters above sea level. A specialized onsite team provided round-the-clock support, overseeing equipment installation and commissioning — overcoming technical challenges and helping achieve multiple key milestones ahead of schedule.

Moving forward, CITIC Heavy Industries will deepen its collaboration with Zijin Mining and Julong Copper, contributing further with advanced equipment and integrated services to foster a worldclass benchmark in copper mining.
