CITIC Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. received the 2nd Prize of the 2009 National Award for Science and Technology Progress at the National Science and Technology Awards Conference held in Beijing on January 11, 2010 for its project of “Extra-Large Shaft Drilling Machine and Completion Technology for Complex Strata”.

Thanks to the project, CITIC Heavy Industries has successfully designed and manufactured the AS12/800 Shaft Drilling Machine with its proprietary IPR, which is able to drill a shaft with the largest diameter and depth in the world. It has 7 patents to its credit. According to experts, the machine provides world-class performance, and its technical indicators are leading international peers. It has ended an era when China had to import large shaft drilling machines, and has greatly bolstered technological progress of large shaft drilling equipment in China’s coal mining industry.
